Gary Brooks
began his teaching career as an Assistant Golf Professional in
1979. Gary’s knowledge of the swing increased when he had the
opportunity to work with one of the Golf Digest Top 100 Teachers,
Ed Oldfield.
Through the years, Gary was always trying to find
different ways to improve his students swing. Gary felt, if his
students could repeat the positions they learned during their lesson,
they would be more consistent and enjoy playing golf a lot more.
As
golf teaching aids became more popular with the average golfer, they
also became wonderful tools to a PGA Professional. With a
variety of teaching aids on the market, students quickly learned that
feeling the correct swing fundamentals did improve their swings.
In
1990, Gary experimented with many of his own proto types of
teaching aids that he believed would help his students. After a year
of many wild contraptions, concepts and theories, Gary believed
he came up with a teaching aid that would be helpful to the PGA
Professional in their teaching but also to the passionate students
who couldn’t afford the help of a PGA Professional.
In
1991, Gary invented his teaching aid the “Original”
Straight Arm. The Straight Arm was
accepted by his students immediately. When the students put the
Straight Arm on, with their first swing, they could feel, see
and physically do the correct lead arm position. They were amazed that
for the first time they could take a back swing, come down to the impact
position and onto their follow-through just below their shoulders
correctly.
With
this breakthrough, students could now feel and understand the advantages
of a correct straight lead arm. Their practice became more effective
and they improved for the reason that, repeating the correct movement
improved their accuracy and distance.
The
Straight Arm will work for every player, men, women,
juniors, right or left handed. The Straight Arm has been
improving swings for 18 years from kids that are as young as 3 to
adults into their 80’s.
In
1996, the Straight Arm was in the golf movie “Tin
Cup” with Kevin Costner and Rene Russo.
That was exciting for Gary, then there was a follow-up
article written in Golf Digest called “Inside The
Ropes”. The article included a picture of Kevin Costner
wearing the Straight Arm, again very exciting to see.
Over
the years, I have sold to Golf Professionals as far away as
Switzerland. I currently have PGA Professionals that have the
honor of being Golf Digest Top 100 Teachers, Golf Magazine Top 100
Teachers, PGA Master Professionals, PGA Tour Players, PGA
Professionals Of The Year, Golf Schools along with a number of
Class A PGA Professionals from coast to coast using the
Straight Arm.
Every
Straight Arm comes with a full color Instruction
Book with how to properly tighten and wear the Straight
Arm to achieve the full benefits. There are also a number of
Swing Drills you can practice with and without
hitting a golf ball to gain a full understanding of the proper position
which will improve your golf game and lower your score.
The
instructional DVD severs many proposes, first, it gives the
player the correct visual of how the Straight Arm
should fit on their arm. Second, the player can watch the proper swing
of the arms from right hip to impact, observing the hand rotation and
finishing at the left hip. Third, they can view the recommended swing
speed while I hit a golf ball so they will accomplish positive results
while they practice using their Straight Arm. Next,
listen as I explain what happens during a swing when a player has poor
swing positions and the bad results they produced. Then I demonstrate,
wearing the Straight Arm, the many
advantages that will happen when the correct positions are done
properly.
And
lastly, I demonstrate without the Straight Arm, in slow
motion, hitting a golf ball, the full correct swing, so again you can
fully understand all of the swing positions from the start, the address
position, back swing, at the top, down swing, impact, follow-through and
to the end, where I show the collapsing of both arms in a well balanced
position.
